Today marks the beginning of Lent, and, as new practitioners of Anglican-ism, my husband and I are trying each year to learn a little bit more about its observation. Neither of us grew up observing Lent, so many of the practices, such as fasting, are new to us. Last year I was nursing, and this year, I will be both pregnant and nursing during the season, so I am not considering a food fast (though giving up sweets wouldn't hurt me!).
However, I thought that the best challenge for myself would be to refrain from purchasing any new art or craft materials during these weeks leading up to Easter. This is something that I really enjoy, the acquisition of my little creative collections, and it will be an effort to not only discipline myself to abstain, but also to think creatively when it comes to utilizing what I already have. So here goes!
(And if I have gotten any of this wrong about Lent, do correct me, those of you who are more experienced in its observation!)
