I feel vulnerable posting this, as I haven't shared any artwork with others in so long....but...
I've been relaxing with my colored pencils lately....I always forget just how quieting I find the simple exercise of drawing, especially with all my favorite colors.
For years now I've struggled with subject matter, and deciding just what to draw. Depicting my favorite things seemed natural, but just what were those things? Color and pattern was always important, and what I am attracted to in other art, but how to recreate that in my work?
This little still life was a great first step on the path to discovering my drawing niche, I think. Simple tools I use everyday that I have a fondness for, on a bright, patterned background to add some clashing color and interest.
I'm pretty pleased with this little piece and look forward to trying more! I'm hoping to have a new crochet pattern finished by tomorrow to share, we'll see!
Pretty! Thanks for sharing!
I used to love drawing when I did Art at school, but it was made easier by the fact that I had tasks given to me. I was told what to draw, or what theme to start out from. It's so long since I've drawn anything (apart from wax crayon sessions with my little girl!), but it's something I'd like to go back to one day.

Wow - what a brilliant start - I love your choice of colour and subject. You can tell you really enjoyed the process - can't wait to see what else you come up with! Thanks for being brave and sharing :D

I really like this - I mean really, really. Somewhere in the jumble that is my memory I can vividly recall an artist (who always painted landscapes) saying he often sat down and tried to paint something else, but no matter what he did it always ended up as a landscape. I found this enormously reassuring because I ALWAYS end up painting flowers, no matter what I thought I was going to do when I first sat down with my brush. It gave me a sort of peace about the whole thing.

Thank you Rachel! It does seem to be that way, that we just naturally have an affinity for certain things. Now landscapes, those are something I aspire to, but I think Im better at still life!
